I have spent enough time “terrorizing” Lorelle with my questions and even made Moshu upset (sorry Moshu, I really missed the link in one of your e-mails). So I ask both to forgive me.

The end result however is that I have found WordPress (СловоДруку) на Українській мові and now I can share it with the rest of the world.

For years I have benefited from WordPress- the best blogging platform in my opinion. Just recently I have suggested to some one in my family back in Ukraine to start using it for their website. However, I have quickly realized that the last localization files for self hosted WordPress were created for version 2.5.

After inquiring around about translation and localization projects, I was referred by the Lorelle to WordPress Translation Project. Twittering with Lorelle was one of those time I wished Twitter would not limit us to only 140 characters.

While Lorelle offered me the wealth of information, as she always does on her blog, I still have many questions unanswered.

My original intention was to help in translating the original WordPress POT file- for localization of the self hosted WordPress websites. WordPress Translation Project on the other hand seems to be part of WordPress.com. Unless of course the two are some how interconnected.

I like the WordPress Translation Project because collectively the huge amount of untranslated strings can be translated in rather short amount of time- if more people contribute. However I am not sure I would like to contribute to the project unless I know that in the end result users of self hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) will benefit from the translation as well.

I do hope that Lorelle can stop by an clarify this for me. Of course to have an input by Matt himself would be a treat as well.

Meanwhile if you are fluent in both Ukrainian and English and are famiar with WordPress head over to WordPress Translation Project and start translating- we have a lot of work to do! You need to be fairly familiar with WordPress otherwise your will not be able to understand the meaning of many of the strings.

However the professionals in the field begin to differentiate these two terms as they should signify two different types of activity. Interpreting generally involves the spoken word and is performed orally. While translating has to do with written text, and of course is performed in writing.

Each function, interpreting and translating, have their own challenges.

While both interpreting and translating require a thorough knowledge of the source and target languages, interpreting is probably more challenging that translating. The translator has freedom and time to correct his or her errors and omissions, sometimes with the help of dictionaries. On the other hand, interpretor performing his task does not have the luxury of having the time to consult the dictionary in order to correct his errors or omissions. This of course requires that interpretor not only prepares in advance, but continues to practice daily in order to perform his duties at the best possible level.

As I write this first blog post, I am taking an educated guess regarding the purpose of your visit.
